Paula Arcila: CCF Athlete Feature

Paula is coming up on her 2 year anniversary at Celebration CrossFit in a few months, and I must say that she is a completely different athlete compared to when she first walked through the door. Aside from her infectious laugh, smiling face, perfectly hip nails, and always encouraging attitude, she never gives up once she steps foot into the Box and ALWAYS gives it her all. Paula sets attainable goals, not only with her fitness, but also with her nutrition and in life in general. She is a full-time student, works a full-time job, and STILL makes it to CCF 5 days a week. She is the prime example of a “no excuses” type of person.

Paula recently gave us some details about her time with us here at Celebration CrossFit. Check out what she had to say below!

What brought you to CCF in the first place?

I had recently completed my bachelors degree, and was looking for a change after I moved to Orlando. I was doing some running, but I was inconsistent because of school and the long hours I had to spend studying. Out of whack with my nutrition, I knew that I really needed something that would challenge me; and, that at the same time, would prove results relatively quick.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?

My first day, I walked into one of the regular group classes at CCF, and right after I finished the couch to CrossFit classes, my first though was, “What in the world have I gotten myself into?!” I knew, better said, I, somehow, was expecting something challenging, but I guess I wasn’t really mentally prepared for something THAT challenging. Currently, my impression has changed a lot. As a matter of fact, I look forward to coming into CCF every day, Monday through Friday. And, if there are days, that for some reason, I cannot make it to class, I feel a sense of regret with myself.

What was your first bright spot or win?

My first bright spot was not too long ago. We were practicing kipping pull ups, and coach JC let me practice them with the black band. For the first time, I had the strength to string four kipping pull ups in a row. Boy, that was exciting!!

What are you working on now?

I am working on increasing my mobility and strength. My goal for the end of the year is to be able to do regular push ups, hand stands, and kipping pull ups, if possible, with only the red band.

What is your favorite memory at CCF?

Without a doubt, my favorite memory at CCF is/was the Open in 2017. Every Friday night, for five weeks, I was challenged with hard workouts; but, at the same time, I enjoyed my fellow athletes cheering on me, pushing me, screaming at me, and last but not least, celebrating all the accomplishments we had during those five weeks. The Open was a very memorable experience for me. I think I’ve made friends for life at Celebration CrossFit. CCF is my happy place, that’s what I call it!
