Get Your Kids Moving
Teaching kids fitness is a huge passion of mine. By instilling healthy habits at a young age, we will be able to drastically prevent chronic disease in our society. Unfortunately, it’s a tough battle due to the uprising of video games, soda, and other unhealthy influences present in our youth’s culture. The time is NOW to prioritize health and fitness for our younger generation.
If you are a parent, this starts with YOU. Having a good role model is key for children. Some of the most successful people find inspiration from their parents who are walking the talk… aka… the ones who see their Mom or Dad participating in CrossFit class. The natural tendency is for the child to want to follow and jump right into it. I remember when I was a kid, I would just hang out in the basement and watch my Dad lift weights. I wanted to be just like him, so I would do push-ups, squats, and sit-ups while he was lifting.
At Celebration CrossFit, we make fitness fun, yet challenging, for our kids. Ranging in ages from 5 to 15, they usually start off with some Personal Training or one of our quarterly Kids Courses. Our goal is just to get them moving, but, even more importantly, surround them in an exciting and encouraging environment.
When someone new joins our gym, we first screen them to see if they are right fit for our facility. They must be ready to commit to a lifestyle, not just a quick fix. If you can commit to a healthier lifestyle, then you can get your kids to buy in too! If we can surround our kids with healthy environments, we can then help to break the current mold. Creating this lifestyle will decrease their chances of growing up overweight or sick ten-fold.
