“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” I know you have heard that one before. When I was growing up my aunt would always tell me: you should have breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a peasant. Because of the importance my family placed on having a hearty breakfast every day, I grew up having breakfast daily and is something that I continue doing to this day. Having a hearty and nutritious breakfast can help you increase your energy and might keep you from excessive snacking throughout the day. However, I know a lot of people don’t have breakfast regularly. If you find yourself wanting to have breakfast, but coming short of ideas on what to eat, or need something quick, have no fear! Today I’m going to give you 4 easy and delicious breakfast ideas for your busy life.

Oats and oatmeal have many health benefits. They are gluten free, are a great source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They can help you lower your cholesterol, your blood sugar levels and might reduce your risk of heart disease. Oats are one of my favorite breakfast options because they are very versatile: you can prepare overnight oats, you can have sweet oats or savory ones, it all depends on your mood. You can buy quick oats and add almond milk, berries, cinnamon and protein powder and you will have a delicious breakfast that takes 5 min to make. If you are rushing in the mornings, you can prepare overnight oats, you can find a good recipe here

Egg muffins

Eggs are among the most nutritious foods in existence. If you think about it, an egg contains all of the nutrients required to grow a baby chicken! Eggs help increase HDL (good cholesterol), they contain vitamins, antioxidants and omega-3s. They are also a great source of protein. Eggs are really quick and easy to cook. One of my favorite things to do is prepare egg muffins. You can add bacon, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and cheese to take your breakfast eggs to a whole new level. Who doesn’t like PB&J? You can make a healthier version of your childhood favorite but choosing whole wheat bread. Whole wheat bread has more fiber and nutrients than regular white bread. Pair it with your favorite nut butter and add fresh fruit instead of fruit jams which are packed with sugar. Or you can get fancy and make avocado toast: smash some guacamole, add lemon, salt and pepper and put it on whole wheat toast. Its quick and filling.

Finally, you cannot go wrong with making a smoothie at home and drink it on the go. Have a base of almond or coconut milk, add your favorite fruit (frozen berries work great) and protein powder and you will enjoy a delicious and filling breakfast. You can add egg whites for extra protein and chia seeds for good fat.

Whether you are a breakfast lover or you tend to eat later in the day, it is very important that you are fueling your body with nutritious food. Having a balanced combination of carbs, fat and protein and regular exercise will help you achieve and maintain healthy weight.
